Offline Payments
We’ve talked about uptime. Now we’re taking it to the next level.
Introducing Offline Payments — a massive update that allows in-person transactions to go through even when there’s no network connection.
This marks the first phase of a complete offline system. Two new flows, full flexibility, and a system built to keep payments moving no matter what happens.
1. Standalone Offline Mode
When connectivity is unstable or unavailable, terminals will be able to switch into Standalone mode — allowing payments to be processed locally and synced once the network is restored.
→ Manual activation: Merchant enables “Go offline” mode directly on the terminal
→ 24-hour sync window: All offline transactions must go online within 24 hours
→ Flexible limits: Configure maximum offline transaction amount or total allowed volume
→ BIN controls: Restrict specific card ranges or brands for offline processing
This flow gives merchants full control. They decide when to go offline and under what conditions.
2. Attached Offline Mode
The Attached flow adds even more flexibility. Terminals can automatically switch to offline operation through:
→ App-switch integration
→ USB serial communication (coming soon)
→ Fallback from connected mode (if network interruption is detected)
This ensures connected POS or integrated systems can still complete transactions without user intervention.
🔜 Next phase: Automatic Offline
Phase 2 is coming Q1 2026
If the network drops mid-transaction, Carbon will automatically complete the payment offline — no user action needed.
That means no more failed transactions due to network or provider outages.
The path to true zero downtime starts here.
