STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Surfboard Payments, a leader in cloud-native payment infrastructure, today announced the adoption and readiness of the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) and the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2). By integrating these open standards into its platform, Surfboard Payments is positioning its partners to lead the next major addition in the global economy: Agentic Commerce.

This transforms Surfboard’s platform into a future-proof bridge, allowing their partners’ merchants to manage commerce through every channel: from in-store and e-commerce, all the way to Agentic flows where AI agents act on behalf of shoppers.

We are building the rails for a world where payments move into conversational, agentic, and are completely seamless.

Payments Where They Happen

Surfboard Payments has long championed the thesis that payments should be invisible and ubiquitous. With the adoption of UCP, the company is expanding its “payments where they happen” philosophy to include the digital assistants of tomorrow.

“We believe shoppers should pay easily, and we believe our partners should allow their merchants to offer payments everywhere without friction,” said Aaron Jonathan at Surfboard Payments. “Adopting UCP and AP2 is the natural evolution of our platform. We are moving in a direction where payments should be possible in the store, in the browser, and in any app. We are building the rails for a world where payments move into conversational, agentic, and are completely seamless.”

Bridging the Discovery Gap

In the era of Agentic Commerce, a product cannot be bought if it cannot be found by the AI. Surfboard Payments is solving this “visibility gap” by aligning its Product Catalog with the rigorous data schemas of the Google Merchant Center.

Through a direct integration using the Content API for Shopping, Surfboard now enables a “write once, publish everywhere” workflow. When a merchant updates product data, such as pricing, availability, or descriptions, within the Surfboard Product Catalog, those changes are automatically pushed to the Merchant Center.

This integration ensures that a merchant’s inventory is instantly discoverable by AI agents, Google Shopping, and the Gemini ecosystem, eliminating the need for manual dual-entry and ensuring that the AI Shopper always sees the most up-to-date information.

Ready to Scale in the Agentic Era

Once the product is found, Surfboard Payments processes the payment on behalf of the business, handling the complex orchestration required to turn an AI agent’s “intent to buy” into a settled financial transaction.

Key Infrastructure Advantages for Partners:

  • Secure Token Orchestration (PCI DSS): Surfboard leverages its PCI DSS environment to securely ingest and hold tokens provided by Credential Providers. We work directly with the Agent to complete the checkout, ensuring that while the AI manages the shopping context, the sensitive financial data remains within Surfboard’s hardened infrastructure.
  • Execution & Settlement: We bear the responsibility of the financial heavy lifting: authorizing and capturing transactions, managing settlements, and communicating with global card networks. The Agent relies on Surfboard to validate the mandate and execute the payment, ensuring the merchant gets paid and the shopper gets their receipt.
  • Unified Commerce Protocol (UCP) Compliance: By adhering to UCP standards, Surfboard ensures that these new Agentic transactions are not siloed. They flow through the same rigorous settlement and reporting pipes as in-store and e-commerce transactions, giving partners and their merchants a single, reconciled view of their entire payment volume.

Empowering Partners to Lead

“Our job is to be the engine that lets software companies become fintech companies,” added Aaron. “By baking UCP into our stack, we are enabling our partners to say ‘Yes’ to the future. They don’t need to build complex AI payment rails from scratch; we have already laid the groundwork.”

This adoption reinforces Surfboard Payments’ commitment to providing the most advanced, developer-friendly payment infrastructure on the market, ensuring that as commerce evolves from transactional to conversational, their partners are always one step ahead.
