Performance Gains, Developer Upgrades & Terminal News – What’s New at Surfboard
We’re continuously working behind the scenes to ensure your payments experience is faster, smarter, and more flexible. Here's what’s been rolling out recently across our platform:
⚡ Speed Improvements – Even Faster Payments
We’ve streamlined several core components of our platform to improve performance:
- Internal processing: Trimmed across our infrastructure – rolled out globally shaving off up to 700 ms per transaction.
- Replaced additional transaction data call: You now save an extra 200–700 ms (depending on network latency). This thanks to the recent addition of transaction details in the response of Check Payment Status API. Note that the transaction details are only available when the status is
'PAYMENT_COMPLETED'
. - Webhooks fire instantly: Consider moving over to webhooks if you today rely on polling for status updates, this can cut times even more, depending on the frequency of your polling. You now get transaction details directly in the Order Payment Completed webhook.
These changes are already deployed and live across all environments. Now you will be able to print receipts on successful transactions at least 1-2 seconds faster.
🛠 Developer Improvements
We’ve launched several upgrades to improve the developer experience and documentation workflows for your AI coding setup:
- MCP v0.1 – Our Model Context Protocol is live! You can now easily add it to your favorite AI code editor like Cursor or Windsurf. Check it out here and let us know what you think: https://www.npmjs.com/package/@surfai/docs-mcp
- llms.txt We've also introduced a llms.txt file to guide AI models on how to efficiently crawl and interpret our developer documentation. Read more here: ✨ AI-Optimized Docs: By Developers - For Developers

💡 UI Enhancements
Our payment flows are getting a face lift with enhanced functionality:
- Tipping: The custom amount is now expecting a total amount (including tip) instead of a tip amount.
- Change payment method: The consumer can now change the payment method at the terminal after a transaction has been initiated from your POS.

🖐 Terminal & Tap to Pay Updates
Hardware and SoftPOS options continue to evolve:
- SurfMini SoftPOS is rolling out with new improvements and better stability.
- Tap to Pay on iPhone is now officially supported across our platform for Sweden and Finland, with zero additional hardware required. Check out how Booksalon added this to their platform in just minutes: CheckoutX – Now Integrated into Booksalon PRO for Seamless In-App Payments
SurfMini SoftPOS - running on Android with Google Play Store
All of this works seamlessly with your existing Surfboard platform integration.
